Collabora 4.0 and Outlook CalDAV Sync-Client

Dear EGroupware Users,

in February the schedule was already quite full and right at the beginning of the year there were two exciting events. At the Univention Summit EGroupware was silver sponsor and at the CalConnect chief developer Ralf Becker and community manager Stefan Unverricht were able to make new contacts. In our February newsletter we would like to keep you informed about the latest developments at EGroupware.

Collabora Online 4.0 released

Collabora Online 4.0 was released on 14 February 2019. Further information can be found below in the newsletter.

This release includes a new look, mobile improvements, improved interoperability, new dialogs and features, as well as a number of bug fixes and other improvements. Collabora Online 4.0 will soon be available in EGroupware Hosting and also for self-installations.

Collaboration with the developer of the CalDAV Synchronizer for Outlook

Having established contact in December 2018, EGroupware GmbH started cooperation with Alexander Nimmervoll of Generalize-IT Solutions OG at CalConnect. Soon there will be a purchase version of CalDAV Synchronizer for Outlook “supported” for EGroupware. With the CalDAV Synchronizer you can synchronize address book and calendar data between EGroupware and common Outlook versions.

Contrary to the freely available version, the purchase version ensures that EGrouware is tested regularly and that reported errors are corrected. If you are interested, please contact us directly. More detailed information will soon be available on our website.

EGroupware 19.1

The new EGroupware 19.1 will be released shortly. The most important new features are:

Optimization for GDPR Address book policies and admin history support the implementation of the basic data protection regulation.
Communicate via Rocket.Chat: Integration of Rocket.Chat including screen transmission and video chat. Rocket.Chat is an open source team chat platform that allows you to communicate securely and easily in real time with other people within ECroupware. Rocket.chat is the leading open source alternative to proprietary chat tools like Slack, Microsoft Team, Hipchat or Stride and extremely user-friendly.
Improved user interface: Modern theme with colored icons and increased use of avatars (users can assign a photo or graphic to their profile).
Optimized collaboration with Collabora Online, e.g. new option to send a sharing link to externals for editing documents. This link opens directly in Collabora Online. It is also now possible to insert images directly from the EGroupware file manager.
Improvement of various EGroupware functionalities, for example the possibility to edit comments in the ticket system afterwards, color design in the ticket system according to subject area, category or version.

Collabora Online 4.0 – Release Details

New look – with improved toolbar colors and layout:

The toolbars have been updated with a lighter color scheme and the colored Colibre icon theme (thanks to Andreas Kainz), which significantly improves the look of 4.0.
The colored icons fit very well to the new EGroupware theme, which will be available with EGroupware 19.1 as “Modern Theme”.
You can also use EGroupware 19.1 to share documents (sharing link), send them directly via e-mail or insert images from the EGroupware file manager.
The new version ist now available in the EGroupware Hosting.

New dialogs and functions:

Inserting comments, diagrams, shapes by icon in the toolbar
Improved shape editing including starting points for rotating or enlarging shapes and graphics
Table of contents and paragraph templates for text documents
Marking and protecting areas (text documents)
Edit headers and footers in presentations and spreadsheets
Edit page formatting for text and spreadsheet documents
Editing the formatting of enumerations and numbering (presentations)
Improved compatibility with OpenXML (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) due to integration of LibreOffice 6.0 core functionalities

Improvements in use with mobile devices:

faster document loading times
Introduction of a simple, reduced display mode to facilitate the clear presentation of documents
Toolbars and menus for easier operation (hide, scroll functions)
Retina / HiDPI Display Enhancement: Use the browser’s native higher DPI to render with the actual resolution of the display and get crisp pixel rendering, for example at 200% zoom.
Enhance multi-touch behaviors such as zooming and panning to take advantage of the full functionality of desktop dialogs larger than a mobile screen.

Collabora Online es una potente suite ofimática en línea basada en LibreOffice que le permite editar documentos desde su navegador web. Es compatible con los principales formatos de documentos, hojas de cálculo y presentaciones, y puede integrarse fácilmente en su infraestructura.

La integración de Collabora ha facilitado el trabajo con EGroupware en muchas aplicaciones. Estaremos encantados de asesorarle sobre otras posibilidades de uso de collabora online office en nuestro próximo Webinar. 2. Finalización de la fase de prueba de Collabora

La fase de prueba gratuita finalizó el 28 de febrero con muchos comentarios positivos.

Para todos los usuarios de la nube de EGrouware en el centro de datos de EGroupware, se incluye el mismo número de licencias “Collabora Named User” que nuestros clientes compraron como “EGroupware EPL Concurrent User”. Esto significa que no todos los usuarios necesitan una licencia adicional. Esta es una gran ventaja para muchos clientes. 3. Webinar de Collabora con información de inicio rápido

¿Cuál es la forma más fácil de iniciar Collabora Online y cuáles son las opciones para los usuarios de EGroupware?

Nos complace invitarle a un seminario web sobre este tema. En este seminario web hablaremos de los primeros pasos desde la puesta en marcha hasta el guardado de los documentos. 1.Collabora Online Office 3.1 is now available

Collabora Online is a powerful LibreOffice-based online office suite that lets you edit documents from your web browser. It is compatible with all major document, spreadsheet and presentation file formats and can be easily integrated into your infrastructure.

The integration of Collabora has made working with EGroupware much easier for many applications. We will be happy to advise you on the further possibilities of the use of collabora online office on our next Webinar. The new Version 3.1 includes many bug fixes and improved chart editing.

2. Collabora trial phase is completed

The free trial phase ended on February 28th with a lot of positive feedback.

For all users of the EGrouware cloud in the EGroupware datacenter, the same number of “Collabora Named User” licenses that our customers purchased as “EGroupware EPL Concurrent User” is included. This means that not all users need an additional license. This is a big advantage for many customers. Just contact us if you have any further questions about the licenses or visit the new Collabora page.

The price for a Collabora user license is 4.25 Euro plus VAT per year for schools and non-profit organizations. A commercial license for companies costs 17 Euro per user/year plus VAT and is therefore much lower than a Microsoft Office license, which costs about 200 Euro. 3. Collabora Webinar with Quick Start Information

What is the easiest way to start Collabora Online and what are the options for EGroupware users?

We are pleased to invite you to a webinar on this subject. In this webinar we will discuss the first steps from commissioning to saving documents. We will also discuss how you can create a PDF form from your document. Birgit Becker will answer the most frequently asked questions from the support area and give many useful tips. Look forward to an exciting webinar.

Very soon we will send an intivation for the online training. In order to better plan the webinar, we would like to know what time (morning or afternoon referring to the german timezome) would be most convienent for you.

4. Early booking discount for user days extended until 31 March

We have extended the early booking discount for the EGroupware User Days in Berlin until March 31st.

New Collabora version in EGroupware

Many users have tried Collabora Online in the EGroupware Cloud and used the free trial period. However, many users wanted a larger range of functions, which was not included in version 2.1.

The Collabora development team has done a fantastic job and released the new version Collabora Online 3.0.

Collabora Online 3.0 includes many new features and improvements. The new version is now integrated in EGroupware and you can test this version in the EGroupware Hosting or NEW the installation packages for your own server. For this reason, we have extended the free trial period until the end of February.

EGroupware Security Update 16.1 & Upgrade to 17.1

We would like to inform you about the following news:
1. EGroupware security update and bug fix release for versions 16.1 & 17.1 RC
2. EGroupware 17.1 is coming soon.

1. EGroupware Penetration Tests / Code Review / Security Update for 16.1 and 17.1 RC

Marcel Mangold from SySS GmbH plus the whole EGroupware development team spent three days digging through our codebase in search of possible vulnerabilities. Three intensive days with lots of insight into how an attacker thinks and works.

We were able to identify some attack vectors, with our knowledge of the EGroupware codebase combined with Marcels pen testing knowhow.
It proved that the EGroupware security architecture on multiple levels – including our eTemplate system – is already quite good, but we’ll of course continue to improve it and already solved the problems we found with this security release.

We have provided a security and bugfix update for EGroupware.
Especially with regard to security updates, we strongly recommend updating your EGroupware systems.

We do not provide an update for version 11.1 and 14.1 and recommend an update to version 16 or 17.
The security update has already been automatically installed for all customers in the EGroupware hosting of EGroupware GmbH. You are already safe and don’t have to do anything.

2. New EGroupware version 17.1 is coming soon

Collaboration makes work easier and can save your team a lot of time.
The new function “Collaborative Editing” with Collabora online office and other new functions of the EGroupware will be presented in our webinar on Thursday, 9th of November 2017. (only in german language). The new EGroupware version 17.1 is coming soon. We will inform you about the exact time schedule and how to update to the new version in the next weeks.

Partnership EGroupware GmbH & Collabora Productivity and New Webinar “Collabora Online”

We’re approaching the release of EGroupware Version 17.1. Therefore, we’re happy to announce, that “Collabora Online” will be available within EGroupware starting with Version 17.1.

Furthermore, we announce a partnership with Collabora Productivity, the driving force behind putting LibreOffice in the Cloud. This partnership enables the integration of Collabora Online, the cloud version of LibreOffice into the online groupware EGroupware – your digital office.

The new integration allows EGroupware users to open and edit various office documents, such as text documents, spreadsheets or presentations within EGroupware. Specifically the option to edit different file formats together in real-time will exceed the existing functionalities by far.

The Collabora Online integration will be available for cloud packages as well as for on premise installations.

On Thursday, 05th of October, we’ll offer a free webinar about Collabora Online Office in EGroupware.

The webinar will mainly take place in German, but we’ll be happy to translate and answer in English. Please don’t hesitate to participate and ask any kind of questions – also in English.
